Whereas, the success and vitality of our nation's radio and television broadcast industry as a whole, and of the radio and television broadcasters in Kansas in particular, are founded upon the dedication and accomplishments of numerous outstanding men and women from diverse backgrounds;
Whereas, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) is committed to the following goals:
1) Promoting non-discrimination in all employment actions and diversity in the workplace;
2) Maximizing the pools of qualified applicants from various backgrounds, for all job openings at participating stations;
3) Promoting broadcasting as an exciting and rewarding career;
4) Expanding the availability of education courses and experience opportunities helpful for a career in broadcasting;
5) Providing user friendly, up-to-date information on all job openings at participating stations;
6) Insuring that all interested applicants have a convenient, rapid and inexpensive way to alert participating stations of their interest in a particular job opening; and
7) Educating stations throughout Kansas on the subjects of non-discrimination in employment and recruitment outreach; Whereas, the FCC has encouraged state broadcast associations to play an even larger role in helping to promote non-discrimination in employment and workplace diversity;
Whereas, Broadcast Executive Directors Association (BEDA) has developed a "Model Broadcast Careers Program Road Map" (Model Program); and
Whereas, consistent with its purposes, KAB currently assists broadcast stations statewide in their recruitment of qualified full-time and part-time employees and desires to explore ways, including harnessing high technology, to expand those efforts.
Now, therefore, be it resolved:
1) The KAB Executive Director is hereby assigned the responsibility of monitoring KAB's Broadcast Careers Program.
2) The Executive Director is hereby directed to evaluate the efforts currently being undertaken by KAB to meet the goals identified and to report to the Board on the results of her evaluation and on her proposals for expanding those efforts. In carrying out her functions, but recognizing that each state broadcast association is distinct in terms of its needs and resources and that each Broadcast Careers Program must be flexible and individually tailored, the Executive Director shall take into consideration the Model Program which contains a number of career program ideas developed by BEDA in cooperation with National Association of Broadcasters.
